Whether you’re a skincare enthusiast or a beginner, you’ll hear two words over and over again: “double cleanse.” The process is simple and actually involves double cleansing your face with an oil-based formula, followed by a cream or gel cleanser. Oil attracts oil (also known as sebum), and cleansing with an oil-based cleanser effectively removes makeup, dirt, and other pore-clogging grime. However, as long as you use the right double cleaning solution.

After trying dozens of makeup cleansing balms, I finally found my holy grail: Dr. Althea’s Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm—and it’s less than $30 on Amazon. For me, there’s nothing more satisfying than removing makeup with a cleansing balm, and the sorbet-like texture of this one is simply heavenly. My makeup melted away within seconds, but the soothing hydration my skin felt afterwards kept me coming back.

Dr. Althea is a Korean beauty brand known for its affordable and effective skin care solutions. While some cleansing balms contain cheap carrier oils that can leave skin feeling like a greasy donut (and not in a good way), I never felt an ounce of oily residue in this Dr. Althea pick. Only a quarter of the amount is needed to effectively melt makeup or sunscreen. Yes, it’s safe to remove eye makeup too.

But whether it’s a meticulous, Korean-style multi-step routine or a slathering of Vaseline before bed, there’s always room […]

As someone with sensitive skin, it’s easy for my face to look visibly irritated. The simplest of ingredients can aggravate my naturally rosy skin, so trust me when I say this is the only cleansing balm I’ve experienced noticeable improvement from. This is partly due to madecassoside, a plant-based anti-inflammatory ingredient that soothes irritated skin while providing tons of anti-aging benefits.

I could go on and on about the rest of this product’s skin-care benefits—like the fact that it’s a vegan, cruelty-free formula, and also free of parabens and fragrances—but I’ll stop there. If you don’t use a cleansing balm to remove your makeup, or you’re tired of your current skincare range, this Korean beauty product is definitely the one for you. Makeup and dirt don’t really go away unless you double cleanse, which is key to making sure your skin is able to absorb serums and other facial treatments.

I don’t believe in spending hundreds of dollars just to find a formula that works. There are so many wonderful skincare heroes for under $50, including my favorite cleansing balm. Try it for yourself – you won’t be disappointed!
