Here’s what’s different about the new spending legislation approved by the House

House lawmakers voted Friday to approve a newly negotiated spending bill that includes many of the same elements as previous legislation but without the debt-ceiling provisions that have alarmed many in their party.

Republican leaders shared the text Friday night, shortly before lawmakers approved the spending bill 366-34.

President-elect Trump and his allies vetoed an initial bill on Wednesday, and a later bill approved by Trump failed in the House on Thursday as lawmakers struggled to find a way forward.

Unlike the version rejected Thursday night, the bill eliminates the debt ceiling extension sought by President-elect Donald Trump, which would have included a two-year moratorium on the debt ceiling.

That version failed to win support from fiscal conservatives among Democrats and Republicans, with Democrats generally opposed to the idea.

The new legislation includes provisions including $10 billion in farmer aid and agricultural subsidies included in earlier versions of the bill that many lawmakers view as must-pass provisions.

It also includes $100 billion in disaster relief aid for U.S. residents, including victims of devastating hurricanes in some U.S. states.

“We will not shut down the government, we will meet our obligations to farmers who need assistance, disaster victims across the country, ensuring military and essential services and all those who rely on the federal government to pay their salaries during the holidays,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said this week Five told reporters before the vote.
