S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed lower as investor sentiment fell, Micron Technology tumbled after sales missed target: Greed index in ‘extreme fear’ zone – Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU), Carnival (NYSE: CC L)

The CNN Currency Fear and Greed Index showed a decline in overall market sentiment, with the index in “extreme fear” territory on Thursday.
U.S. stocks were mixed on Thursday, with the Dow ending its longest losing streak since 1974.
At the beginning of the trading day, all major stock indexes rebounded, with 30 stock indexes rising by more than 460 points. However, as the trading day progressed, the gains gradually fell back.
Micron Technology Corporation. mu Shares fell more than 16% on Thursday after the company reported better-than-expected first-quarter profits and sales that missed expectations.
In terms of economic data, the U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.1% in the third quarter, which was higher than the second forecast of 2.8% and higher than the 3% in the previous quarter.
Sales of existing homes in the United States increased 4.8% year-on-year in November, with an annualized rate of 4.15 million units. The number of people applying for unemployment benefits for the first time in the United States fell by 22,000 to 220,000 in the first week of December, compared with market expectations of 230,000.
Most sectors in the S&P 500 ended lower, with materials, real estate and energy stocks among the biggest decliners on Thursday. However, utilities and financial stocks bucked the trend and closed higher.
The Dow Jones closed about 15 points higher at 42,342.24 on Thursday. The S&P 500 fell 0.09% to 5,867.08 points, and the Nasdaq fell 0.10% to close at 19,372.77 points.

What is the CNN Business Fear and Greed Index?
The index’s current reading on Thursday is 22.4, which is in “extreme fear” territory, compared with the previous reading of 22.5.
The Fear and Greed Index is a measure of current market sentiment. Its premise is that higher fear puts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. The index is calculated based on seven equally weighted indicators. The index ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 represents maximum fear and 100 represents maximum greed.
