Polls found that Biden’s U-turn on pardoning his son Hunter is unpopular with Americans
President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter after previously vowing not to give him a pass is supported by just 20% of Americans, a new poll released Wednesday showed.
An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll found that about half of adults disapprove of a pardon following Hunter’s felony conviction on gun and tax charges.
The poll showed about 18% of adults neither agreed nor opposed the decision, while 8% said they didn’t know how to express it.
While Democrats are more likely than Republicans and independents to approve a pardon, the poll shows only 38% of Democrats approve, compared with 27% who say they disapprove of the shift.

The older son was convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year. He pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in September and was convicted of three felony firearms charges in June for lying on a mandatory gun-purchase form, saying he did not have illegal drug use or drug addiction.
The president argued in a statement that Hunter was “singled out simply because he is my son” and that someone was trying to “bring Hunter down” to “bring me down.”

A day after the pardon, reporters grilled White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about whether Biden and his agents had lied to the American people. Jean-Pierre responded, “One of the things the president believes in is always telling the truth to the American people,” repeatedly pointing to Biden’s own statements on the matter.
