5 Expensive Extras Royal Caribbean, Carnival Passengers Should Avoid

Some cruise lines, like Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises, sell cruises that are more inclusive than fully a la carte cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Lines.

Newer cruisers don’t want to miss out, which can lead to some buying mistakes.

Of course, every cruiser is different. What is a waste to some may be important to others. In some cases, the prices on normally wasted items are so good that they become worth it.

For example, Royal Caribbean’s The Key service offers online access, early boarding, special lunches and other perks. This isn’t what most passengers will need, but sometimes it’s priced close to the price of the internet itself.

At that point, something that might itself be waste becomes something valuable.

Additionally, cruisers face and can easily avoid many spending pitfalls.

Here are five things new cruisers waste money on, according to other passengers.

First, if you’re not a drinker, buy a drink package. If you can’t have five alcoholic drinks a day during your cruise, save your money and don’t buy a package.

The second is to purchase a full price spa treatment. Think twice before booking a spa treatment. We recommend you go to the spa on your first day and ask if they have any specials, we got up to 35% off.

Third, tip twice. If you purchase anything on the cruise—drinks, specialty meals, and spa treatments—gratuity will be included. So be aware of this and if you want to tip extra for great service then it’s up to you.

Fifth, purchase a photo package. Do you really need 20 8×10 cruisers?
