HDMI 2.2 could debut at CES next month

We may see the next HDMI standard, HDMI 2.2, in a few weeks. According to an email sent by the HDMI Forum to media outlets including Engadget this weekend, the new HDMI specification will be announced ahead of its official launch in Las Vegas on Monday, January 6. Details are scarce at the moment – all we know is that the new specification “supports a wider range of higher resolutions and refresh rates, and will be supported by new HDMI cables.”

HDMI 2.1 has been around for seven years. It was recently updated to version 2.1b in 2023, supporting bandwidths up to 48Gbps and resolutions up to 10K. The email said new specifications using next-generation HDMI technology will bring higher bandwidth. That’s all we know for now, but we’ll have a team at CES to keep you updated on this and all other announcements.
