Seven people were injured when a New York taxi ran off the sidewalk outside Macy’s department store on Christmas Day
Seven people were injured when a taxi veered off a sidewalk and plowed into pedestrians outside a Macy’s department store in New York City on Christmas Day, police said.
The incident occurred in midtown Manhattan near the Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square, near the corner of West 34th Street and Avenue of the Americas (or Sixth Avenue).
Images of the cab showed the car was heavily damaged, with broken parts and dents everywhere. The store’s beautifully decorated windows attract tourists and New Yorkers during the holidays.
In addition to the 58-year-old taxi driver, the injured included a 9-year-old boy, two 49-year-old women and four other women aged 19, 37 and 41, police added.
A 49-year-old woman with a leg injury, a 9-year-old boy with a cut and a 41-year-old woman with a head injury were all taken to the hospital, police said.
The remaining three pedestrians refused medical treatment. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
