US citizen imprisoned in Russia gets new 15-year sentence on espionage charges
A Russian-born U.S. citizen already jailed in Russia on bribery charges has been sentenced for a second time on espionage charges.
Eugene Spector has been sentenced to a new 15-year prison sentence on espionage charges, Russian news agencies reported. Spector was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia, but later immigrated to the United States and became a citizen.
Spector was charged with espionage in a Moscow court last August, but details of the case have not been made public.

The U.S. State Department said it was aware of reports of a U.S. citizen being sentenced in Russia and was closely monitoring developments.
Spector, a former executive of a Russian medical equipment company, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison in September 2022 for bribing an aide to former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

The aide, Anastasia Alekseyeva, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in April for taking bribes for two expensive overseas vacations.
Dvorkovich served as Deputy Prime Minister of Russia under former Prime Minister Medvedev from 2012 to 2018.
