“All I Want for Christmas Is You” was released 30 years ago and was the lead single from Carey’s 1994 debut holiday album Merry Christmas. Thirty years later, the song continues to dominate the charts and has been certified 16 platinum, becoming the highest-certified single ever by a female artist.
In November, Carey reflected on the song’s origins in an interview with ABC News.
“I was doing it myself…writing on this little Casio keyboard and thinking, ‘What will I think about for Christmas? What do I love? What do I want? What are my dreams?’ That’s what it’s all about.” start. “
When making the song, Carey wanted it to become a holiday classic.
“My goal was to do something timeless so it didn’t feel like the ’90s, which is when I wrote it,” she added.

“I feel like it’s too early in my career,” she told the outlet.
In the end, Kelly’s love for the holidays won out and she was eventually dubbed the Queen of Christmas.
This year, Carey took her appreciation for the season to the next level as she went on 16 dates A Merry Christmas Tourshe performed multiple shows across the United States and Canada from November 15th to December 17th.

“Last year we didn’t go around the country,” she told ABC News. “So that’s what we did this year.”
Carey hopes the tour will give fans the “happiest Christmas ever” while also allowing them to enjoy “being together.”
She went on to tease that new music is “coming soon,” hinting that she’s been “writing new songs” recently and spending time in the studio “working with the choir.”
