Knicks’ Mikal Bridges beats Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama; Knicks edge out

New York Knicks shooting guard Mikal Bridges and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembunyama faced off in a Christmas Day showdown on Wednesday, with the Knicks winning 117-114.
Bridges scored 41 points, his most since the Knicks acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets in the offseason.
With star center Karl-Anthony Towns in foul trouble, Bridges stepped up and scored 15 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Bridges made 17 of 25 shots from the field and 6 of 9 from beyond the arc.
Wembanyama, 20, was outstanding in the loss. The Spurs’ young star scored 42 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. He also hit six three-pointers.
Wembunyama continues a string of strong performances after being named Western Conference Player of the Week.
Knicks forward Josh Hart finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, but the last two rebounds were his most important.

With 39 seconds left in the game and the Knicks leading by 3 points, the Spurs chose not to foul. Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson missed a 15-foot jumper, but Hart grabbed the rebound.
Then, with four seconds left, Knicks forward OG Anunoby missed a three-pointer, but Hart once again grabbed an offensive rebound and the Knicks ran out of time.
Towns scored 21 points and 9 rebounds, and Brunson also contributed 20 points.

With this victory, the Knicks won five consecutive games and improved their record to 20 wins and 10 losses.
The Knicks will face the Orlando Magic on Friday.
With the loss, the Spurs dropped to 15-15 and their next game is against the Nets on Friday.
