Teenage cheerleader stabbed to death in Azusa just days before Christmas
A 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in Azusa just days before Christmas, according to family members.
According to a police news release, the Azusa Police Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on North Soldano Boulevard around 10 p.m. Friday.
Police found the girl with stab wounds at the scene; police said she was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody, officials said. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges.
The victim’s family identified her as Angelina Camilia Gonzalez.
Angelina’s stepfather, Robert Caraballo, told ABC7 the suspect picked up Angelina at the cheerleading party and took her to his home. The family eventually located Angelina by tracking her cell phone.
“When I got there, there was crime scene video, forensics and all kinds of stuff. I ran up to the police and said, ‘Hey, my daughter is in there. You know, my daughter is right there. I’m trying to find her. . She wasn’t home. That’s when they told me, ‘Sit aside for a minute,'” Caraballo said.
Caraballo told the outlet that he had previously told Angelina to stay away from her ex.
Angelina’s family is raising money through GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses.
“She has a heart of gold. She is my perfect angel baby. I don’t even have words. I can’t even cope. I need her. Our family is devastated,” said Angelina’s mother Letty Leticia Pimentel Caraballo wrote on the page.
