Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods scores hole-in-one at PNC Championship
Tiger Woods isn’t the only member of his family to create big moments. His 15-year-old son Charlie hit his first ace at the PNC Championship on Sunday.
Dad seemed more excited than he was about scoring a hole-in-one.
Charlie Woods hit a 7-iron from 175 yards on the par-3 fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Club in Orlando to seal the final round of a tournament filled with mostly major champions and their families.
He didn’t even know it fell into the hole. A large group of spectators next to the green started cheering wildly, and another group of fans on the other side of the hole started cheering wildly. Most of them raised their index fingers – some downward to indicate that the ball went into the hole, and some upward to indicate that his ball was in the hole. Score. Television cameras finally confirmed it for him.
“It’s a perfect 7-iron, so just hit it,” Charlie Woods told Golf Channel. “Going down the left, there was a little cut 7. It was awesome. I didn’t think it went in. I didn’t believe anyone until I went up there and saw it.”
Woods hugged his son hard and then playfully pushed him away.
“The first one,” Charlie said, cameras surrounding him.
Even better, it gave them a temporary lead. This is the fifth consecutive year Woods and his son have participated in the 36-hole championship.
Padraig Harrington’s son Paddy followed Charlie with his first career ace on the 214-yard par-3 eighth shortly after. Another celebration. That left Harrington within one shot of the leader.
