Lara Trump no longer considering Marco Rubio for US Senate seat
Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Trump, said on Saturday that she would no longer consider Florida Republican Marco Rubio for his seat in the U.S. Senate.
“After much thought, deliberation, and encouragement from so many people, I have decided to remove my name from consideration by the United States Senate,” she wrote on Saturday.
The president-elect nominated Rubio as secretary of state.
“It is an honor to serve as Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee during the highest-stakes election of our lifetimes, and I am deeply humbled by the incredible support I have received from the people of our state in what is a great election for the state of Florida. ” Laura Trump added.

Trump, the wife of the president-elect’s son Eric Trump, resigned as co-chair of the Republican National Committee earlier this month.

The president-elect had previously pressured DeSantis to name Lara as Rubio’s successor, a political source told Fox News Digital, but he later told reporters he didn’t necessarily want DeSantis to appoint Lara as Rubio’s successor. Thantis chooses her.

Rubio’s Senate successor will be appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and will serve for the remaining two years of Rubio’s term.
The seat will serve a full six-year term in 2026.
Lara Trump has previously said she was “seriously considering” the position, though she wasn’t sure it was the right one for her.
