Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes eases ankle injury concerns, sets personal rushing record with touchdown run
Patrick Mahomes’ ankle condition has been widely discussed ahead of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans.
While there were doubts this week as to whether the star quarterback would be available against the Texans, he fully completed practice with the Chiefs on Thursday.
Mahomes was cleared to play and finished with 260 yards passing in Saturday’s 27-19 victory over Houston.
But the three-time Super Bowl champion nearly tripped and sprinted into the end zone for his first score of the game, but managed to get back to his feet and raise some eyebrows.

Mahomes sat out the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ Week 15 game against the Cleveland Browns. Backup quarterback Carson Wentz replaced Mahomes and had a 20-yard pass to help the Browns beat the Browns 21-7.

Mahomes’ 15-yard rushing touchdown on Saturday marked the longest rushing touchdown of his career. Shortly after Mahomes crossed the goal line, broadcaster Noah Eagle wondered, “What rogue ankle?”
This is not the first time Mahomes has suffered an ankle injury.
During the 2022 NFL playoffs, Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain during a divisional playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The win over the Texans improved the Chiefs’ record to 14-1. Kansas City has clinched a playoff spot after winning the AFC West title for the ninth consecutive year.
