The Marvel sequel Disney+ fans hate needs a break

when Thor: Love and Thunder When it came out, I was as disappointed as most Marvel fans who wanted more impeccably weird, impeccably cozy vibes Thor: Ragnarok. Of course, director Taika Waititi’s sophomore superhero effort isn’t as good as Ragnarokbut it’s not as bad as the haters say. As I was re-reading old Thor comics, it occurred to me that this movie is much better than its reputation and much better than the other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that haven’t been as enthusiastically received by fans.
Follow Ragnarok
First, let’s start with the hard truth: critics almost universally agree Thor: Love and Thunder is a disappointing follow-up film. On Rotten Tomatoes, love and thunder The rating is 63%, which means it’s pretty close to… well, sucking. at the same time, Ragnarok It ranks high on Throne of Asgard with a 93% positive rating. If these two movies were about a precocious teenage god attending school in Asgard, Ragnarok Will be a winning student love and thunder He would be the class clown and barely pass, let alone the homework.
I’m going to rip the band-aid off now because I don’t want any of you to think I’m saying love and thunder Compare RagnarokEffortlessly combining humor and action while relying heavily on Chris Hemsworth’s comedic skills (turns out, they’re as well developed as the rest of his muscles). However, this fourth Thor movie is more thor 2a film that wastes the talents of both Chris Ecclestone and Natalie Portman. At this point, Taika Waititi deserves full credit for bringing Portman back to the MCU in a major way love and thunder.
Compared to Iron Man 3
Also, while I personally enjoyed the movie (Shane Black can do no wrong in my eyes), iron man 3 Considered an early failure in the Marvel Universe, many fans criticized it for wasting the Mandarin’s exposure (among other things). common criticism Thor: Love and Thunder That’s a little too silly to include, but ask yourself: Are too many of the movie’s jokes really more embarrassing than Ben Kingsley’s terrorist mastermind being revealed to be a drug addict actor? Besides, even I have to admit love and thunder The plot is simple (although the tone is uneven) iron man 3The plot is intricate.
Also, while this is obviously completely subjective, I can’t help but feel that Waititi is Thor: Love and Thunder giving us more memorable moments than most modern Marvel movies. For example, the screaming goats were annoying and the whole “Jane has cancer” plot was uplifting, but almost every frame of this Asgardian adventure was more uplifting than anything I’ve ever seen in a movie memorable. black widow or Shangqi. This Thor movie will most likely make you smile and cheer…just compare it to similar movies Quantum Mania make you confused or Eternals That will just put you to sleep.
Not perfect but not bad either
Again, this is not to say Thor: Love and Thunder It’s a perfect movie…it’s truly a tonal mess, with things like Jane’s death and Gore’s tragic backstory standing out next to a scene where Chris Hemsworth is stripped of his clothes crazy. But I can’t help but rate the movie on its entire merits (that’s actually my job!), and it turns out that a series of tonally mixed but memorable scenes add up to a film that’s memorable and (most importantly) Enjoyable movie. The fact that I didn’t have to watch anything on Disney+ as “homework” before listening was just the icing on the cake for Frost Giant .
If you decide to revisit Thor: Love and Thunderyou may find it a refreshing respite from the endless holiday programming. Also, if you’re disappointed with anything other than modern Marvel Deadpool and Wolverineit’s a pleasure to return to a comic classic that’s better than you remember. If we can accept Tony Stark as flawed but brilliant, it’s surely time to accept Thor’s most maligned movie.
