A new survey reveals the top 25 steakhouses in America and provides a keen insight into the latest trends in how Americans enjoy beef.
According to Yelp, the top 25 steakhouses are located in 16 states. Nine of the states — California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington — each have two restaurants on the list.
According to Yelp, the No. 1 restaurant in the country is Penumbra in Chicago. Penumbra currently has a perfect five-star rating, with nearly 1,000 reviews.

The restaurant was described as “intimate” and romantic, with steaks “cut like butter” and “cooked and seasoned to perfection,” according to Yelp.
Yelp reviewers also praised both sides of Team Penumbra.

According to Yelp, three of the top 10 steakhouses are Brazilian restaurants, which feature all-you-can-eat meat.
According to Yelp, at a Brazilian steakhouse, “skewers are grilled slowly over an open fire and then chopped tableside, Rodizio style, until you say ‘I’m full.'”

The three Brazilian steakhouses that made the top 10 were Fazenda Gaúcha in Bedford, Texas, at No. 5; Pasado Brazilian Steakhouse in Alpharetta, Ga., at No. 6; Brasão Brazilian Steakhouse in Plano, Sask.
Other South American cuisine also made the top 10, including No. 1 Penumbra, whose menu “reflects the chef’s childhood in Ecuador,” according to Yelp.

According to Yelp, two of the top 25 Florida restaurants are inspired by Argentinian flavors.
The restaurants are No. 4 La Cosecha Argentinian Steakhouse in Medley, Florida and No. 8 Bunbury in Miami.

Not all of the top 25 restaurants are upscale fine dining establishments.
Several restaurants have a more casual atmosphere and lower prices.
Third place went to Philadelphia’s Shay’s Steaks, whose menu focuses on sandwiches.
At Shay’s Steaks, “the iconic cheesesteak gets a major upgrade, with every sandwich stuffed with filet mignon or prime rib,” according to Yelp.

On its Yelp page, reviewers of Shay’s Steaks claim it’s home to “the best Philly cheesesteak ever” and “absolutely the best.”
Likewise, at No. 16 Steak Shack in Honolulu, Hawaii, customers order from a walk-up window.

The restaurant’s specialty is the 6-ounce “steak plate,” which includes cooked-to-order rice, salad and steak for less than $13.
The largest 14-ounce “steak plate” at Steak Shack costs $22.80.
Customers can also choose a combination of chicken and steak.
