Boston area snowfall latest schedule, map of expected totals
Enjoy the seasonal weather while you can, as snow is set to fall in the Boston area on Friday and freezing temperatures are in store this weekend.
Thursday will be dry and partly sunny, but there’s a chance of snow on Friday as colder air moves in and clouds increase.
A blast of winter arctic air will sweep through the region this weekend as temperatures plummet.
Latest snowfall schedule
Boston 25 Morning Meteorologist Shiri Spear said in her latest forecast that a few flurries of light rain and snow are possible during the day, but the impact will be minimal with just scattered coverage.
Spear said “a distant ocean storm will bring additional moisture” Friday night, bringing more consistent rain and snow to southeastern and eastern Massachusetts.
Spear said that as overnight temperatures drop into early Saturday, “there is an increasing chance that local roads will become slippery and snowy.”
Snow showers may continue into Saturday morning.
Expected snowfall totals
Spear said most towns east of Interstate 495 will likely see 1-2 inches, but some spots could see up to 3 inches.
Cape Cod and the Keys may not be cold enough for large accumulations.
Snow accumulation in these communities could be as deep as 1 inch.
Arctic air arrives
Highs are expected to be near 30 degrees on Saturday, while Sunday’s highs will only be around 20 degrees.
