Family of Hannah Kobayashi found “relieved and grateful” one month after she voluntarily disappeared in Mexico

Hannah Kobayashi’s family says she was “found safe” about a month after she walked into Mexico and disappeared in what police called a voluntary disappearance that made headlines across the country.

Her sister and mother, Sydni Kobayashi and Brandi Yee, said in a statement to People through attorney Sara Azari: ” We are beyond relieved and grateful that Hannah was found safe.

“The past month has been unimaginably difficult for our family, and we ask that everyone please respect our privacy as we take time to heal and process everything we have been through,” the family continued.

Hannah’s sister and mother added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us during this difficult time. Your kindness and concern means the world to us.”

Hannah, a 30-year-old photographer living in Hawaii, was reported missing on November 11 after she failed to catch a connecting flight from Los Angeles to New York City.

Police later determined she traveled to the southern border on November 12, walking into Tijuana, Mexico.
