Why Bridgestone’s new blade iron is so appealing
Just because you use a certain type of club in one model does not mean you will use the same type of club in a different model or brand.
Fully Equipped co-host Kris McCormack has extensive experience testing Bridgestone’s new 200 Series irons.
Bridgestone Golf announced their first new golf clubs in five years earlier this week – the 220 MB, 221 CB and 222 CB+, as well as two forged wedges – in this week’s “ Well-equipped” podcast, 2-handicap golfer McCormack revealed that he has been testing irons and surprisingly found that the 220 MB worked best.
“I was even surprised by the consistency of the ball flight because I wouldn’t consider myself a good hitter by today’s standards, but I would say I’m better than average at hitting the iron, but I can’t hit I’m fine on the phone myself. This MB is awesome,” McCormack told fellow co-host Wadeh Maroun.
McCormack often plays with split back irons, so to really succeed with a set of muscle back irons caught him off guard. But what’s interesting is that McCormack plays a set that has forged short irons and cast long irons. He did the splits after using a 6-iron, the same iron he tested in Bridgestone Forged Products.
Maroun hopes to learn more about the difference in feel between the new Cubs and the Ping i230 long irons McCormack currently plays.
“Feel-wise, it’s definitely more responsive, more feedback. I have more control with the Bridgestone in terms of being able to shape the shot,” McCormack said. “I noticed that the 230, for me, has a higher launch, a little bit more spin, so obviously it gives me more control and braking power going into the green.
“But I’m very, very happy with the look, sound and feel of the Bridgestone. Would I keep it in the bag? Definitely needs more testing out there to see what the turf interaction is like. But it will check Checks all the boxes in the bay to find the numbers I’m ideally looking for, just haven’t had the chance to take them to the golf course yet.
