The Sci-Fi Channel in the late 1990s was a realm full of strange and unknown shows you could only read about in TV Guide. Of all the weird things that went on the channel in those days, nothing was weirder than Lex.
There is a good reason why the show airs on the channel late at night. Lex is the strangest, most confusing, bizarrely obsessive series in television history.
This is not a hyperbolic statement. Lex Live up to every word of it, and INow it’s time to step back and appreciate this very strange series that breaks all the rules of science fiction and polite society.
The origins of Lexx and its utter madness
Lex It is a joint production between Germany and Canada. It was the brainchild of show creator Paul Donovan, who has done basically nothing in the entertainment industry since. Lex. forward Lexhe made mostly normal, small, unseen independent films. There is no hint of the madness that lurks deep within him.
try to explain the plot Lex It’s impossible, and doing so will probably get you into trouble, as you’ll have to explain how the universe is controlled by his divine shadow, a seemingly immortal evil being. He wants to conquer the neighboring universe, as well as the dark universe.
If there was a plot, it would be the show’s main cast trying to stop his divine shadow. However, they don’t always work very hard. Sometimes they’re just too horny. Seriously, that’s part of the plot.
What started out as four really weird TV movies, then got weirder
Lex’s The first season consists of four television movies. In the first film, we were introduced to a ragtag group of misfits and the strong, brave and heroic leader of the revolutionary heresy, Thorin, played by Barry Bostwick. Then, quintessential sci-fi hero Todin is killed, and we realize that, somehow, lazy, rebellious courier Stanley and runaway, recently charming love slave Zeff are our protagonists.
Stanley H Tweedle was played by Brian Downey, and Zev was originally played by Eva Habermann. Even stranger, in the show’s second season, Zev was suddenly played by an entirely different actress named Xenia Seeberg, with vague sci-fi reasons attached. They also started calling her “Xev”, pronounced the same as Zev.

‘Lexx’ is a show without real heroes, but it does have corpses
Stanley and Zev are not your typical sci-fi heroes. In fact, calling them “heroes” is a bit of a stretch. They can’t accomplish much on their own, so the show provides them with help in the form of corpses.
The deceased’s name is Kay, played by Michael McManus. Kai is an immortal assassin. Correction, actually no, he is completely dead,
When Kai regains his memory, he betrays the villain of the show, the Shadow. He ends up aboard the Lexx, the superweapon starship that gives the show its name.
The ugliest, stupidest starship in science fiction history. How awesome is it?
If the Lexx isn’t the ugliest, stupidest starship in the history of science fiction, then I don’t know what is. It’s not ugly in a cute way like Serenity of Fireflies is. Or in a fun way, like the awkwardly shaped thousand-year-old eagle.
No, that’s just stupid.
Bad.
not good.
Also, I want one too.
Lexx is one of the central focuses of the show as it is where most of the episodes take place and it has the power to destroy anything.
It’s all about Lusticon
There’s also a sex-obsessed robot head, voiced by Jeffrey Hirschfield. Oh, and let’s not forget about Alan Durbin’s cannibal Gigrotta. Others pop up throughout the show’s fourth season and are just as weird, silly, weird and sex-obsessed as the main cast.
If this sounds similar to Guardians of the Galaxy or Visionwhich it is, but it’s much stranger.
Lex Filled with fan service and innuendo, a device called a Lusticon is turned into a plot point. That’s right, I’m talking about Lusticonn. For a throwback to ’90s cable TV, watch this series dreams come true Then put it in the blender Visionand Lex will be the result.
Stanley Tweedle has no dance moves, Xev has no standards
One of the best and longest running jokes is embodied in this concept, surrounding Stanley trying to get along with, and later with, Zev. Zeff doesn’t seem to have any standards, so she’s generally interested in this sort of thing, except for Stanley being the only person in the universe who actively excludes her.
So Stanley deludes himself into thinking he’s fighting the long game. Meanwhile, he follows Zev around the boat and drools over her, just like that scene in the movie. mask Jim Carrey sees Cameron Diaz in a red dress, his eyes bulge from his head, and he transforms into a cartoon wolf obsessed with the ladies. Imagine that scene repeated over and over again, but without the special effects or the part where he shows off his cool dance moves and wins the girl.
Stanley doesn’t have cool dance moves. In fact, as far as we know, Stanley has no positive traits at all. Stanley likes to bring player characters from some sort of soft-core, text-based video game from the ’90s to life and launch them into space. Guys, he’s your hero. Someone you should support and identify with.
Lexx is the David Hasselhoff of sci-fi shows
as Lex As it progresses, the tone of the entire show changes, and a lot of credit has to be given to the production team here. Seasons 1 and 2 of the show were wild and full of basic frat humor, but season 3 went much darker and became a somber experience.
Season 4 takes place on contemporary Earth, and it’s a safe bet that this was due to budget issues that overwhelmed the show’s elaborate green-screen sets. Yes, even green screens have become unaffordable. This is the budget Lex Working on it.
Budget cuts occurred despite the fact that Lex It was a huge hit in Germany, Russia and Eastern Europe. you could say that Lex It’s the David Hasselhoff of science fiction shows.
Budget be damned; Lex In about a dozen episodes of Season 4, every possible storyline you can think of is run through.
How it stacks up against venerable science fiction
If you are watching a legal program e.g. Vision, babylon 5and vastness, Lex Can’t compare. Compared to those great mainstays of television science fiction, Lex It’s crazy garbage. That’s probably why it’s forgotten today.
To be fair, it was also forgotten at the time.
I can’t make excuses for this. Lex It was just shy of being a complete disaster. Sometimes, it’s a disaster.
But, there’s usually a few things going on. A funny joke, a crazy sci-fi concept, or even a heartfelt character moment. Which makes this show not the worst thing you’ve ever seen.
This is crazy and either terrible or genius. Or maybe both.
but Lex is unique.
This is absolutely unique.
What’s for sure is that the size of his ultimate weapon, the Shadow, is exactly the type of goofy humor we need more of in our science fiction.
One thing everyone loves about Lexx: Yo yo yo
if there is one thing about Lexwhich is undoubtedly good, with absolutely no excuses, caveats or hesitations: it’s the show’s theme song. It was added in season three and is one of the show’s best decisions.
this Lex The theme song was originally a fight song from Kai’s past, Brunnen G’s fight song. for Lex’s The opening credits, and the graphics to go with them still aren’t great, but those voices singing during the battle are so good they almost don’t matter.
